The title says it all, isn’t it? This one is for all the Tweeple out there. I don’t have to tell you how important it is now to secure our online accounts the best way we can.

So, before your fire away your next tweet, let’s have some peace of mind. We’re going to see how we can secure our Twitter account with an additional layer of authentication every time we login. Follow the steps below to get started!

• Log on to the Twitter account.
• Click on your profile photo at the top-right of the webpage and select Settings.

• Click on Security and privacy.
• Under Security, you will see the option Login verification. Don’t verify login requests will be the default setting. Below that, you will see the options to Send a verification code to your mobile device via SMS, or to the Twitter app installed in your device.

• Now, to set up the verification via SMS, you need to add your mobile phone number. Click on ‘add a phone’ hyperlink as marked below.

• You will get to the page to Add your number. Select your country if it’s not selected by default, and enter your mobile number. Ensure that the country code displayed is correct. Click Continue.

• You will now receive a verification code via SMS to confirm your mobile number. Get the code and enter it at the verification page.

• A message ‘Your phone notification preferences have been updated‘ will now be displayed. Below that you will also find the Text notification settings for your mobile number where you can choose what types of additional notifications you would like to receive as SMS. Review the options and uncheck those which you don’t want to be notified via SMS, and click on Save Changes.

• Now that your mobile number is added and verified, let’s set up the two-factor authentication. Click on Security and privacy option again. Select the radio button ‘Send login verification requests to *your-mobile-number*. A message will appear to ask your permission to send an SMS to confirm that your mobile number is working.

• You will now receive a test SMS from Twitter, and you will also be asked to type your Twitter login password to confirm the new changes in settings.

• Log out of Twitter and log in again with your password. You will now receive an SMS with the verification code to confirm the authentication. Enter the code, and you’re in!
